Effective September 10, 2024, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) automatically extends the validity of Green Cards for lawful permanent residents who file Form I-90 to 36 months, up from the previous 24-month extension. This change allows individuals to use the expired Green Card and the receipt notice of their I-90 application, as proof of their status and employment authorization while they await their new Green Card. For those who no longer have their Green Card, USCIS recommends scheduling an appointment to potentially receive an ADIT stamp as temporary proof of lawful permanent resident status.
